My Take on the Brandon Marshall Trade

Brandon Marshall

As the news swarms today over the Dolphins’ acquisition of Brandon Marshall, I have chosen to be cautiously optimistic. Not optimistic that the trade will go through, but optimistic that it will be worth it. Miami has seen it’s fair share of off-field player discrepancies in the last couple of years and while I don’t believe in karma, I do believe in planting seeds and reaping what one sows. One player’s talent alone isn’t worth much in the context of a team, if that talent is not balanced by character and an all-pro work ethic. Terrell Owens, once considered a god at his position, has given many fans much hope that eventually lead nowhere. Let’s hope that the Dolphins regime did their due-diligence tempered with much soul-searching before pulling this trigger. Although a second round pick seems to be a bargain for this caliber of player, two second rounders can easily amount to losing out on two really good, if not great players. No doubt, Sparano, Ireland, and Parcells know this is a huge gamble, but one they felt they must take for the chance to truly compete with the likes of the Jets and Patriots. You can bet I will be closely tracking the draft and it’s end results regarding who we get and who we could have gotten. If you are a dolfan and the praying kind, then now is the time to hit your knees and pray for some divine intervention that results in maturity. Because we all know that South Beach and stupidity can be a deadly combination.

  1. I adore this time of the year with the nfl draft. I’m hoping we can add some depth at skill positions this time. With some luck, we won’t lay an egg :)
